  Nach seiner Militärkarriere wirkte Lord Burghersh als Diplomat in Florenz (1814–1830), Berlin (1841–1851) und Wien (1851–1855). Der begeisterte Musiker und Musikliebhaber gründete die Royal Academy of Music. Nach dem Tod seines Vaters wurde er 1841 zum 11. Earl of Westmorland.

• Correspondence with August Wilhelm von Schlegel

  Schlegel kannte Lord Burghersh und seine Frau aus Florenz und London und sicherlich aus seiner Zeit als Botschafter in Berlin. 1837 bat er den Musikliebhaber um Mithilfe bezüglich des geplanten Beethoven-Monuments.
