[1] Dear Sir.
I hear with regret that you will probably leave
Florence on Monday; the more as I am confined at home & am unable to pay my respect to Mad:e de Staël or You before your departure.
I have cut my leg by an accident & shall probably be a week in my Surgeon’s hands.
May I take the liberty of requesting you to make my best respects & services to
Mad:e de Staël & to express my gratitude for her obliging attentions, & my sense of [2] of the honor & advantage I have had in her acquaintance.
I beg also to present my services to the
Duchess of Broglie & the Baron de Staël.
Allow me to regret the few occasions I have had of cultivating your valuable acquaintance, & to thank you very sincerely for the ready & kind assistance you gave me in
my little work on the Niobe. may I be counted amongst your faithful servants as I am [3] amongst those who know the esteem & respect due to your talent & acquirements.
I take the liberty of adding my address in England & if I could at any time
be of use to serve you, I should feel myself much flattered by your making use of it.
If any copies of
my Niobe would be agreable to you I need not say how much they are at your service.
[4] My best wishes for your pleasant Journey & believe me
Your faithful Serv
