We now propose that they should set off the beginning of the last week of this month, say about the 25</hi><hi rend="family:Courier;offset:4;underline:1">th</hi><hi rend="family:Courier"> Instt; and they will hope to wait on you at <placeName key="887">Bonn</placeName> very early in February. </hi><hi rend="family:Courier" rendition="#PRSPreset1">The</hi><hi rend="family:Courier"> winter which had hitherto been unusually mild, &amp; which encouraged me in fixing an early time for the journey, has recently set in with much severity. But I hope the worst of it will be passed by the time the young folks set off.<lb/>Since I had the pleasure of </hi><ref target="fud://4122"><hi rend="family:Courier">writing to you last month</hi></ref><hi rend="family:Courier">, I have had the gratification <milestone unit="start" n="44418"/>[2]</hi><note type="Notiz_zur_Transkription"><title>Paginierung des Editors</title></note><milestone unit="end" n="44418"/><hi rend="family:Courier"> to hear from Bengal that the Government there has authorized a large undertaking superintended by </hi><persName key="2553"><hi rend="family:Courier">M</hi><hi rend="family:Courier;offset:4">r</hi><hi rend="family:Courier"> Wilson</hi></persName><hi rend="family:Courier"> for indexing and abstracting the whole of the extant Sanscrit literature or in other words <name key="3524" type="work">making a copious Catalogue raisonné of all that is forthcoming</name>. Mr Wilson writes to me that he gets translations by his assistants of copious extracts and has already made great progress towards a complete version of the <name key="6664" type="work">Agni Purána</name> which is quite a Sanscrit Encyclopedia. I trust the <orgName key="6661">India Company</orgName> at home will sanction the undertaking – &amp; defray the charge of so useful and magnificent a work.<lb/>You desire me to specify my wishes in regard to the tuition of <persName key="8840">my son</persName>. The objects which I have chiefly in view for him are the acquisition of the German language and a foundation laid in </hi><hi rend="family:Courier;offset:4">the</hi><hi rend="family:Courier"> study of civil law. He is destined for the legal profession. I wish him likewise to be well grounded in Mathematics; and to get as much more knowledge as he has time and opportunity to acquire. I should be glad that he should attend lectures conducive to the attainments of liberal knowledge; and those especially which prepare for the profession to which he is destined: the bar.<lb/>To be more particular, I may say that I wish him to learn French and German; &amp; to pursue his classical studies; attending particularly to the Greek &amp; Latin O<milestone unit="start" n="46360"/>[r]</hi><note type="Notiz_zur_Transkription"><title>Textverlust durch Blattausriss</title></note><milestone unit="end" n="46360"/><hi rend="family:Courier">ators, and Historians.
