[1] 37 HowlandstreetFitzroy SqMarch 22. –Sir –Understanding that you was at present in London I cannot refrain from naming to you a work which I have been for some Years laboriously engaged in preparing for the press and which I hope to complete in about two months. –The subject is important as it contains the whole system of the doctrines and History of Budhism from its own records.– The originals in Palee and Cingalese were the fruits of Sir Alexander Johnstons zeal and unwearied effort for the acquisition of material, to throw light on the past Ages of Indian Literature [2] and every fact contained with their contents give reason to appreciate their testimony not solely to Budhist History but to Indian History –The preparation of these works for the press has now occupied me nearly five years and as I shall publish it by subscription I should feel it an encouragement and an honor to add your name to my list –I would certainly have preferred personally naming the subject to you but that illness precludes my attending the Meetings at the Asiatic Society.
