Auf sein Wirken hin wurden zahlreiche Kunstschätze wie die „Elgin Marbles“, das Fries des Parthenon-Tempels und der Stein von Rosetta nach England überführt. 1803 kehrte er nach London zurück und begann für das Außenministerium zu arbeiten.1809–1822 war Hamilton für den britischen Außenminister tätig und setzte sich in der Folge für die Rückführung italienischer Kunstschätze durch die französische Regierung ein. Als Generalbevollmächtigter des Außenministeriums hielt sich Hamilton seit 1822 für drei Jahre in Neapel auf. Hamilton stieß die Gründung der Royal Geographical Society im Jahr 1833 an und übernahm deren Vorsitz. Als Generalbevollmächtigter des Außenministeriums hielt sich Hamilton seit 1822 für drei Jahre in Neapel auf. Hamilton stieß die Gründung der Royal Geographical Society im Jahr 1833 an und übernahm deren Vorsitz. Will you kindly excuse the liberty I take in introducing to you my friend Dr Brabant, a very intelligent and well informed Physician, who on giving up a successful practice is about to pass a few months in Germany with a view of improving his acquaintance with the learning and learned men of your learned country. As he proposed to visit Bonn on his way to Berlin, I have given him the greatest satisfaction in proffering to him a note of introduction [2] to you: and he will feel himself much flattered if you will have the kindness to introduce him to some of your friends at Bonn. I have had great pleasure in being deputed to read your memoir on the Hindoos to the Royal Society of Litterature, and the Society is much indebted to you for such a testimony of Your regard. My dear Sir,
Will you kindly excuse the liberty I take in introducing to you my friend Dr Brabant, a very intelligent and well informed Physician, who on giving up a successful practice is about to pass a few months in Germany with a view of improving his acquaintance with the learning and learned men of your learned country. As he proposed to visit Bonn on his way to Berlin, I have given him the greatest satisfaction in proffering to him a note of introduction [2] to you: and he will feel himself much flattered if you will have the kindness to introduce him to some of your friends at Bonn. I have had great pleasure in being deputed to read your memoir on the Hindoos to the Royal Society of Litterature, and the Society is much indebted to you for such a testimony of Your regard. It will be printed in the Volume of their Transactions, which is now in the press. When may we hope [3] to see you again in this city. We have received a fearful Secousse since you visited us. The Reform of Parliament has spread over us an universal mal-aise, which Every succeeding year will I fear make more incurable.
