I beg you will have the kindness to inform </hi><persName key="5117"><hi rend="family:Courier">M</hi><hi rend="family:Courier;offset:4;underline:1">rs</hi><hi rend="family:Courier"> Hunters children</hi></persName><hi rend="family:Courier"> by <persName key="10537">her former husband</persName> of this melancholy event. I say melancholy, but, religiously speaking, I believe M</hi><hi rend="family:Courier;offset:4;underline:1">rs</hi><hi rend="family:Courier"> Hunters death was wisely ordained and regulated by God. Her health had long been precarious, her sufferings lately very acute and distressing <milestone unit="start" n="25247"/>[2]</hi><note type="Notiz_zur_Transkription"><title>Paginierung des Editors</title></note><milestone unit="end" n="25247"/><hi rend="family:Courier"> to witness. Three years ago I was ordained a minister of our established Church, and M</hi><hi rend="family:Courier;offset:4;underline:1">rs</hi><hi rend="family:Courier"> Hunter had latterly become serious and devoted much of her time to the poor of the parish. She died relying confidently but not presumptuously in the atonement of <persName key="170">Jesus Christ</persName> alone. I never could ascertain whether she was brought up as a Catholic or Protestant, but during a long period of my union with her, she believed in the very vast errors of <persName key="12881"><placeName key="356">Romanism</placeName></persName>. On her deathbed I could not <milestone unit="start" n="43568"/>[3]</hi><note type="Notiz_zur_Transkription"><title>Paginierung des Editors</title></note><milestone unit="end" n="43568"/><hi rend="family:Courier"> trace the slightest reliance on <persName key="12881">any other mediator</persName> but Jesus Christ, and as she studied <name key="5343" type="work">the written word of God</name> very attentively and I trust humbly, I believe God opened her heart and understanding to all its saving truths. She received the greatest comfort from her knowledge and love of the truth as revealed in the word of God. She was attacked with a violent dysentery about 6 weeks before her death, a complaint which she had been long subject, but in a milder form, and this was <milestone unit="start" n="43569"/>[4]</hi><note type="Notiz_zur_Transkription"><title>Paginierung des Editors</title></note><milestone unit="end" n="43569"/><hi rend="family:Courier"> superseded by dropsy. Her pains were very acute and distressing to witness during the last 15 days of her existence, but she bore them with great fortitude, and resignation, was contented nay anxious to die, to depart hence from suffering, and be with the Lord in glory.
