My Dear Sir
If reputation in this Country be agreeable to me I may congratulate you on having fairly earned it without the help of artifice or Cabal.. I know no book so generally read & followed or opposed as Your Lectures on Dramatic Poetry. You are become our National Critic. – Are you engaged in any new literary Undertaking? I am now so incessantly employed on my history that I had time only to glance at Your Brotherʼs Lectures on Literary History in which I was scandalized at seeing him commend Hume for [2] his Toryism – Offer my best remembrances to him when you write to him –
Could you get for me in

Hudibras,
& tell me in what part of the world I am likely to find

If his works be in the Royal Library pray send me the Titles – Can I do any thing for you in England – If you find any of the books I need [3] they may be addressed to me to the [care] of Messrs Longmans Booksellers Lo[ndon] who will pay the Price & Carriage. –
Yours with admiration & respect
