The Project
- The project brings together the entirety of August Wilhelm Schlegel’s correspondence into a digital edition, that is, approximately 5,000 letters, in part previously printed letters, in part letters which have until now only been handed-down in handwritten form. The greatest possible amount of information concerning each letter is offered according to its availability:
-
- Digitized images of the manuscript (including potential concepts, outlines and transcripts)
- Digitized images of already available printings
- Searchable full texts based on printed letters or on our own transcriptions; previously printed letters are not newly transcribed (exceptions are printings which reproduce only a small portion of the original letter)
- Differentiated labelling and registry placement as applied to standardized metadata linked to GND and — initially as examples, to full texts
- Comprehensive indexes with direct access to respective passages
- Interface to Kalliope, the digital collection, and especially to the SLUB as well as to correspSearch
- Unlike the Romanticist letter editions to date, now for the first time a large body of letters are edited into a digital edition and are made freely available. The project strives by the use of best practice methods to contribute to current standardization procedures of digital editions.
- The next steps:
- Final incorporation of remaining manuscripts
- transcription and collation of to date unpublished manuscripts
- ongoing release of completed edited sections
- completion of XML text labelling (inclusive of registry labelling)
