  Arzt Francis Bisset Hawkins studierte nach dem Besuch der Schule in Eton Medizin in Exeter und Oxford. Ab 1829 lehrte er als Professor für Medizin am King‘s College in London. Ab 1835 war er in der Verwaltung des Strafvollzugs tätig.
- Correspondence with August Wilhelm von Schlegel
  Hawkins sandte AWS ein Paket mit den Vorlesungsmitschriften Georg Toynbees, der 1833 Schlegels Bonner Vorlesungen besucht hatte. Hawkins nutzte sie für seine Schrift „Germany. The Spirit of her History, Literature, Social Condition, and National Economy“ (1838).
