East Indies. July 15th 1844.
Sir
I am the son of Sophie Wilhelmina Hunter who I believe lived with you before her marriage with my Father. Would you have the kindness to inform me what the name of her Parents were, & where they lived as it greatly concerns me to know. My dear Mother died last October 1843. I believe I was at Bonn a short time after I was born. I regret much that I cannot write in French or German, but to my shame be it spoken I do not either understand German or French. I conclude however from the intercourse with English men of letters that you have had. You will be able to decipher my letter. Will you be so kind as to write to me a Messrs. Remington &Co Bombay East Indies. I think I could make out a French letter. Forgive me for troubling you in such a manner. Would you also tell me where her children by her first husband Monsieur Buchting live, & what they are. I hope if I live to visit Germany which I consider [2] my Fatherland, when in four or three five years I hope to get leave of Absence from my Regiment.
I remain Sir
Yours Very Obediently
Frederic Augustus Hunter.
