[1] Bristol. June 30. 1842.
Dear Sir,
Although I have not enjoyed the privilege of frequenting Your Society, yet being not altogether unknown to you, I venture to hope that I may be allowed the honour of introducing to your acquaintance
my country woman and friend Miss Carpenter, a Young Lady of the greatest worth & highest intellectual endowments, a daughter of the late Dr Carpenter, who was celebrated as a [2] writer on mental Philosophy and on Controversial Theology and was a man universally esteemed for his high moral qualities. Miss Carpenter is about to pay a short visit to some parts of Germany and is naturally desirous of seeing whatever is most worthy of admiration. May I venture to facilitate her attainment of this wish in one signal intance.
Allow me to take this opportunity of thanking you
[3] for the honour you have done me on sending me the preface to the German translation of a certain book. I can only wish that the work had been more worthy of the προμαντευς, who condescends to usher it with the German world.
Allow me to subscribe
Myself,
Dear Sir,
With high respect,
Your faithful Servant
James Cowles Prichard
