Dear Sir
As you gave me the hope of seeing you in my little cottage I write to say how delighted I should be if you would pay us an unceremonious visit on Wedy evening when I have the hope of seeing Dr Rosen & two or three other [2] Germans – or people as verdeutscht as my English friends tell me I am – among them Sir Carlyle the author of the Life of Schiller & translator of Wilhelm Meister.
I propose this little visit only in the absence of any more xxxxxxx attractive – for you [3] know England too well to expect to find a man who has given himself wholly to abstract science, in a very brilliant position.
I should like extremely to accompany you in your visit to Miss Flaxman to whom I have a letter of introduction – This is a bold & frank proposal which you will of course be equally [4] frank in refusing if it would impose any gène on your movements.
Tomorrow evening also I am at home & if you had nothing better to do should be delighted to introduce to you my young friend Mr John Mill of the E. India House son of the author of British India.
I am Dr Sir
most respectfully yours
Sarah Austin
