London 1825. March 3d
Dear Sir
I take shame to myself for not having forwarded to you sooner, the accompanying Diploma of your Election to our Royal Society of Literature. But it happened by some accident to be placed out of sight while I was absent from Town, and escaped my memory till another accident brought it forth from its concealment. I trust you will pardon my negligence, in consideration of the pleasant alacrity with which I originally promoted the payment of this tribute of respect to your genius.
Will you have the goodness to acknowledge the receipt of the Document to our President the Bishop of St Davids, at the Societyʼs Chambers Lincolns Inn Fields. For myself, I shall be most happy to hear from you on this occasion and on any other. I am, Dear Sir, with sincere esteem and admiration
Your ob. St
