[1] Saty eve.
Dear Sir
I am
désolée at my ill luck – I have not been out of my house any Sunday till the last for many months – Today I was gone to a friend of mine on business – How unfortunate! Had I but known of your kind intention I should certainly not have suffered any thing to draw [2] me out.
I dare not even hint at a petition for another visit; indeed I should be distressed
, that you should attempt to come again except by appointment – But if you have any evening to bestow mine are all free except Wedy
Mr Austin lectures on Tuesdays & Thursdays [3] & generally returns accompanied by some of his friends at eight oʼclock.
Tomorrow evening we are at home.
I suppose you would not be
excessively scandalized if I come to call on you. I feel strongly tempted to repair my misfortunes in that way.
I am dear Sir
most respectfully
Yourʼs
Sarah Austin.
