Lower Grosvenor Str 13
October 20th 1826
Dear Sir,
I trust that you have not so far forgotten me, as to render an apology, from me, necessary, when I beg to recommend to your kind attentions my Friend Mr Talbot, a Gentleman of the first Family & Fashion in England, of polited manners, a cultivated mind, & peculiarly conversant with German literature – among other translations of great merit, He has with much success rendered into English, tho’ as yet unpublished, the sublime Poem of your great Epic, Klopstock –
There is not much of novelty or of importance to mention to you of our literary transactions, except, that we may expect, ere long, a constitutional History of England, which I am sure will increase the high reputation of my Friend, Mr Hallam: and the life of Bonaparte, of that extraordinary Genius Sir W. Scott – It is nearly complete, & highly spoken of by those who have been favord with the perusal – From you, Sir, we expect what will delight & instruct us, & add fresh leaves to your laureld brow –
Believe me
Dear Sir
most faithfully
Yrs Wm Sotheby
