I called to beg a particular favour of you. It was to do what no man in Europe can do so well as you – to write a short necrologie or character of Göthe for the New Monthly Magazine. The Editor, Mr Bulwer, is a distinguished Member of Parliament as well as author, and many [2] of our leading characters as well by birth as by talent, contribute to his work. I mention this that you may see that you will not be writing in a work below what your very high character requires. Pray excuse me if I am taking too great a liberty in making this request. Though really the English public would be so delighted [3] with a thing of the sort from your pen, that I hope to be pardoned for trying to procure them the gratification. Believe me to remain, with the very highest respect & admiration,
